🧀 Ultimate Potato Gratin Recipe

Sure! Here’s a delicious and indulgent recipe for Ultimate Potato Gratin – creamy, cheesy, and golden on top – perfect for any special meal or cozy dinner!

🥔 Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) Yukon Gold potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1½ cups grated Gruyère cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried thyme)
  • Optional: pinch of nutmeg

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13″ baking dish with butter.
  2. Prepare the Cream Mixture
In a saucepan over medium heat, add:
    • Heavy cream
    • Milk
    • Garlic
    • Thyme
    • Nutmeg (if using)
Warm it up until just about to simmer. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
  3. Layer the Potatoes
Place half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Slightly overlap them.
Sprinkle half of the Gruyère and half of the Parmesan cheese on top.
  4. Repeat the Layers
Add the remaining potato slices, then pour the warm cream mixture evenly over the top.
    Finish with the remaining cheese.
  5. Bake
Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly, and potatoes are fork-tender.
  6. Let it Rest
Allow to cool for about 10–15 minutes before serving. This helps it set and makes slicing easier.

📝 Tips:

  • For extra flavor, rub the dish with a cut garlic clove before adding anything.
  • Swap Gruyère with cheddar or Swiss cheese for different taste profiles.
  • Add caramelized onions or a layer of sautéed mushrooms for a twist.

🍽️ Serving Suggestion:

Serve with a crisp green salad or alongside roasted meats. Great for holidays or Sunday dinner!
